Most Travis County foreclosures are non-judicial trustee sales run by the trustee or substitute trustee named in the deed of trust, not by county staff. Under Texas Property Code 51.002 they are public auctions held on the first Tuesday of the month between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The County Clerk states the auction is held at 10:00 a.m. on the west steps of the Travis County Courthouse, 1000 Guadalupe Street, Austin.
Local rules for owners
  • Any residence rented for less than 30 consecutive days needs a City of Austin short-term rental license from Austin Development Services. The City announced that starting July 1, 2026 it would ask STR platforms to remove unlicensed listings.
